The action takes place is Hove, the ‘upper? class’ part of Brighton.
The lust and longings of the 1960s permissive society pervade the apparently respectable Wicksteed household.
A succession of characters become entangled in a saucy comic debacle ranging from
philandering Doctor Arthur Wicksteed and his cake decorating wife Muriel;
the randy Canon Throbbing; Connie, a frustrated, flat-chested spinster;
a hapless hypochondriac (Dennis) and the colonial Lady Rumpus with her pregnant daughter Felicity.
Bennett adds a breast enhancement appliance fitter (Shanks); a suicidal patient (Purdue);
a vertically challenged medical consultant (Sir Percy) and Mrs Swabb, a busybody cleaning lady.
